Investigating Human-Machine Cooperation

Christiane Wiebel, "Investigating Human-Machine Cooperation", Scientific Colloquium SRH Heidelberg, 2023.

Abstract

Today, intelligent systems are often designed to operate in interaction with human users instead of working autonomously. Recent research in human-machine interaction deals with the question on how to design this interaction in an optimal way and it has been hypothesized that designing the system to towards cooperation is beneficial in this respect (Bengler, 2012, Bütepage, 2017, Krüger, 2018, Sendhoff, 2020). In this talk, I will introduce a theoretical framework for designing human-machine cooperation and link it to some recent empirical work on gaze-based user modelling: to assess different user states and task demands, we explored the potential of a novel information-theoretic approach for scan path analysis.
