Investigation and implementation of a form-based tracking system using Level-Sets

Daniel Weiler, "Investigation and implementation of a form-based tracking system using Level-Sets", 2005.

Abstract

Level Set methods are numerical methods for curve and surface evolutions. Their relevance in Computer Vision was steadily increasing over the past years. This diploma thesis is divided into two parts. The first part gives an introduction into the Level Set theory and introduces the three basic Level Set evolutions termed motion in an external velocity field, motion in the normal direction and constructing signed distance functions. Furthermore a Level Set method for segmentation, based on the Mumford-Shah functional, and an extension of this method for vector valued data, will be introduced. The second part of this diploma thesis describes the implementation of the examined algorithms for MATLAB and the programming language C.
