From Science to Innovation

Basic research holds enormous potential for technological innovation. But turning scientifically grounded ideas into market-ready applications is rarely straightforward!

A collaboration between Honda Research Institute Europe and the Technische Universität Berlin MBA Programs “Energy Management” and “Building Sustainability in Urban Futures”, under the academic guidance of Prof. Dr. Søren Salomo, aims to bridge that gap.

Ten multidisciplinary project groups will apply the Jobs-to-be-Done framework to identify the fundamental needs that emerging innovations could address, sharpening the path from research to commercial viability. HRI associates Tobias Rodemann, Ali Raza, Sebastian Brulin, Felix Lanfermann, Benedict Flade, Krishna Rajan, and Jens Schmuedderich bring perspectives from engineering, economics, and law to work together with MBA students, combining technical, economic, and regulatory perspectives.

With participants from more than 20 countries, the project also draws on international market knowledge that few academic initiatives can match.
