abstract = {Group ideation requires complex interaction among group members. This paper explores how a gesture-based robot impacts such group interaction. A small robot mounted on a whiteboard responded with six different gestures (e.g., nodding, shaking its head, following speakers with gaze) to specific situations in group ideation sessions (five groups, three participants each). We coded the participants{\textquoteright} interaction with the Interaction Dynamics Notation and further explored the participants{\textquoteright} experience through individual post-session interviews. The most frequently invoked robot behavior was gaze following. Participants most likely responded with moving ideation ahead (individual-level) and consensus-building (group-level). Compared to two reference groups without robot, the groups with the robot showed an increase in consensus-building. This is substantiated by participants{\textquoteright} accounts of the robot providing a shared point of focus, encouraging conversation and aiding decision-making. Altogether, the inclusion of a robotic mediator in human groups seems a promising application domain of robots.},
