abstract = {Peer-to-peer (P2P) networks were first made popular by filesharing applications such as KaZaA, Napster, LimeWire and BitTorrent. These early applications on P2P networks relied exclusively on always connected users to ensure that the services were available by utilizing some form of centralized indexing services. With the rapid technological developments, the computing devices have become increasingly smaller and are connected via mobile networks run by telecommunication companies. Additionally, more sophisticated applications that are even more resource intensive such as online social networks (OSNs) on P2P platforms are possible. The smaller devices that are connected to the P2P OSNs may not have adequate resource capacities, such as bandwidth, memory or storage space, to share with the P2P network. Thus, p2p mechanisms must take into account that a strong heterogeneity of devices exist through dedicated roles for more reliable devices and short-term devices. In this paper, we present an algorithm that handles capacity management as he new users join the network. We implement and test the algorithm on our P2P framework for OSNs called LibreSocial, and show that network functions well even when there is a significantly high number of limited capacity devices join the network.},
