abstract = {Understanding the role of individual factors on gaze behavior has
important implications for gaze-based applications and theoretical
work. Previous work has shown individual differences for fixation
durations across tasks and time (e.g.: [Henderson and Luke 2014])
and that differences in scan patterns relate to individual differences
in cognitive capacities [Hayes and Henderson 2017]. In the real
world, however, we often encounter one task under different internal
states. Thus, a subsequent question is how such intra-individual
differences interact with inter-individual variations in gaze behavior.
Here, we tackle this question by analyzing fixation statistics and
different scan path representations in a visual search task inducing
different observer states. Results show that reliable inter-individual
differences exist in fixations statistics and for scan path representations
that allow for modeling a temporal dimension. Changes
in observer state affected the data, but a substantial amount of
variance between observers remained stable.},
