abstract = {Due to increasing vehicle complexity and growing customer requirements, the early consideration and subjective evaluation of the overall vehicle performance is very important to identify weak points and keep the predefined development time. Complex problems can be investigated and optimized in the early development process using simulation-based working environments. Additionally first subjective evaluations without a real vehicle are possible utilizing virtual vehicle prototypes which are evaluated in driving simulators and on HiL test benches. An important application is the stability at high speed where the customer expects a stable and controllable vehicle. This behavior is mainly influenced by the chassis subsystem. Especially at high speed in interaction with real road disturbances, the definition of vehicle target performance is challenging and has to correspond to subjective and objective correlations.

In this publication, a new simulation-based method for optimization and evaluation of defined driving scenarios derived from real driving conditions is introduced. The new method allows an initial investigation of the effects of suspension settings and the determination of optimized suspension specifications by using multi-objective optimization. At this point basic specifications of components like stabilizers and springs as well as more complex parts like bushings or dampers can be considered during this optimization. The assessment of the optimization results is done by Driver-in-the-Loop evaluation. A crucial part of this work is the usage of a complex real-time full vehicle model combined with real world driving maneuvers, for the offline optimization and evaluation in a driving simulator. These enable a direct comparability of the results. This new method aims also to a reduction of prototype vehicles, by pre-selection of suitable chassis characteristics after subjective evaluation.
The procedure is demonstrated using the example of the before mentioned stability at high speed. Finally the optimization and evaluation results are verified with a test vehicle and the scope of further work will be presented.},
